Kapwell Ltd is pleased to announce the successful completion and delivery of a bespoke liquid-liquid separation package, designed, engineered and manufactured in Scotland.

The project involved the design and supply of two dedicated separators for a specialist process application: a Light Phase Liquid Separator and a Heavy Phase Liquid Separator. The equipment was required to separate residual aqueous and organic phases as part of a solvent extraction process.

From Process Requirement to Completed Equipment

Kapwell’s engineering team developed the separator design around the client’s specific process conditions.

Material selection was an important consideration because of the process fluids involved. The design incorporated stainless-steel construction, with appropriate corrosion-resistant internal materials, followed by pickling and passivation after fabrication to restore and protect the corrosion resistance of the stainless-steel surfaces.

Designed, Engineered and Manufactured in Scotland

The project was managed by Kapwell from its Aberdeen engineering office, with manufacturing undertaken at Scotland.

Kapwell’s scope covered the complete equipment lifecycle, including:

  • Process and mechanical design
  • Detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
  • Fabrication and assembly
  • Separator internals
  • Material traceability and certification
  • Dimensional and visual inspection
  • Pressure/leak testing
  • Pickling and passivation
  • Quality documentation and certification
  • Preservation, packing and delivery

The project was successfully completed and delivered within the agreed programme and budget, demonstrating Kapwell’s ability to take specialist separation requirements from initial process data through engineering, manufacture, testing and final delivery.

Quality Built into the Project

Testing and quality assurance formed an integral part of the manufacturing programme. Kapwell’s quality approach included qualified fabrication procedures, dimensional and visual inspection, appropriate testing and the provision of certification including material certificates and test records.

The completed equipment was manufactured under Kapwell’s controlled quality-management system, supporting the company’s continued commitment to reliable, fit-for-purpose separation equipment.

Supporting Specialist Separation Applications

This project is another example of Kapwell’s capability to provide custom-engineered separation solutions for applications where standard, off-the-shelf equipment may not meet the required process, material or installation requirements.

From small laboratory and pilot-scale separators through to full-scale industrial process vessels and separation packages, Kapwell can support clients with process design, mechanical engineering, fabrication, testing and complete project delivery.
