Description
The Low Liquid Level Shutdown (LLLS) system is a vital safety component for Mud Gas Separators (MGS). It continuously tracks and manages the liquid level inside the separator to prevent potential gas blowouts towards manned areas, minimizing hazards and ensuring efficient operation.
Predicting the anticipated gas and mud flow back is challenging due to frequent adjustments in drilling parameters. This can lead to the mud seal in the MGS blowing out, raising safety concerns for many existing MGS units. As a result, LLLS is considered a crucial safety feature during HAZOP studies routinely conducted by operators.
The liquid level actuator in our system continuously monitors the mud gas separator’s liquid level during drilling operations. Operators can set predefined thresholds in the control unit based on specific drilling needs. If the liquid level drops below the configured threshold, the control unit triggers a shutdown sequence, which includes closing relevant valves, stopping mud circulation, and activating alarms to alert operators. Additionally, the system features a manual override via the HMI, allowing operators to intervene and make adjustments as needed to prevent false shutdowns.
Our technology offers the highest level of safety during mud and gas processing.
Kapwell certified Mud Gas Separator can handle a high proportion of mud solids and may experience hydrate plugging as a result of gas expansion through the choke. The liquid seal ensures that separated gas vents safely without breaking through to the mud tanks. The design of our Mud Gas Separator is based on client specification or ABS CDS requirement or conventional process practice and latest notices and publications.
