Description
The Low Liquid Level Shutdown (LLLS) system is a vital safety feature for Mud Gas Separators (MGS), designed to continuously monitor and manage liquid levels within the separator. Its primary function is to prevent gas blowouts into manned areas, thereby reducing hazards and ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Predicting gas and mud flowback during drilling is inherently challenging due to frequent adjustments in drilling parameters. These fluctuations can compromise the mud seal in the MGS, posing significant safety risks. Consequently, the LLLS system is routinely recognised as a critical safeguard during HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies conducted by operators.
Kapwell’s LLLS system includes a liquid level actuator that continuously monitors the mud level in the separator throughout drilling operations. Operators can define threshold limits within the control unit based on well-specific requirements. If the liquid level falls below the configured setpoint, the system initiates a shutdown sequence that includes: Closing relevant valves, Halting mud circulation and Activating audible and visual alarms to notify rig personnel
The system features a manual override via the HMI (Human-Machine Interface), enabling operators to intervene and make adjustments if required, thereby reducing the risk of false shutdowns.
Our technology offers the highest level of safety during mud and gas processing.
Kapwell-certified Mud Gas Separator can handle a high proportion of mud solids and may experience hydrate plugging as a result of gas expansion through the choke. The liquid seal ensures that separated gas vents safely without breaking through to the mud tanks. The design of our Mud Gas Separator is based on client specification or ABS CDS requirement or conventional process practice and latest notices and publications.
